Primary open angle glaucoma is a silent disease that leads if not early diagnosed and treated properly may lead to permanent significant visual loss.
Secondary to high intraocular pressure and the resultant lack of nutrition, the optic nerve will start to degenerate and the fibres of the nerve are lost gradually.
If we lose the optic nerve tissue, we will not be able to do anything to restore vision.
Diagnosis and control depends on:
- Clinical examination
- Regular intra ocular pressure measurement
- Documenting and change in the morphology of the optic nerve by OCT and Visual Field machines.
