Glaucoma diagnosis
- Primary open angle glaucoma is a silent disease that leads if not early diagnosed and treated properly may lead to permanent significant visual loss.
- Secondary to high intraocular pressure and the resultant lack of nutrition, the optic nerve will start to degenerate and the fibres of the nerve are lost gradually.
- If we lose the optic nerve tissue, we will not be able to do anything to restore vision.
- Diagnosis and control depends on:
- Clinical examination
- Regular intra ocular pressure measurement
- Documenting and change in the morphology of the optic nerve by OCT and Visual Field machines.
